These two speakers represent such opposite ends of the spectrum that they only feed they would only feed the biases already held by the audience. But maybe that is worthwhile.

O'Toole's message and research is an old paradigm, unaccepted by any but the extremem libertarian views that support his 'free market' institute. The City of Calgary did a study on the fiscal costs of growth in a compact city and a sprawling city. The study found 33% savings on the capital costs of roads, transit, water and sewer, recreation centre, police and fire stations.

As a taxpayer and homebuyer that is enough of a message for me and should be clear to politicians who have to make the land use decisions.
